GasGas Factory Team rider Jaime Busto won the final round of the FIM X-Trial Championship in Cahors, France, on March 22, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Repsol Honda’s Toni Bou from taking the Championship aboard his Montesa Cota 4RT. The win was the second this season for Busto, who also won the opening round in Madrid.

GasGas Factory Team rider Jaime Busto (pictured) won the penultimate round of the FIM X-Trial Championship in Cahors, but Toni Bou clinched the title.

Busto finished out the night in France with a score of 14, which was just one point better than Bou, giving the GasGas rider the win. Unfortunately for him, Bou had already clinched the title earlier in the night.

For Bou, it was his 19th X-Trial number-one plate. “I’m very happy,” Bou said. “It’s clear that the goal was the title, right from the start. The season didn’t start the way we wanted in Madrid, but we managed to turn it around. We’re a very solid team; we don’t make mistakes, and we’ve made it to every final possible. We’ve achieved many victories, and I’ve ridden very well, so I’m happy with the season and the title. It’s something very special, as you never know if it’s going to be the last. I’ve been very fortunate to win many more than I could have imagined, so I have to enjoy it.”

Third on the night went to Bou’s teammate Gabriel Marcelli, while Sherco’s Arnau Farre of Spain and Benoit Bincaz of France round out the top five.

In the Championship, Bou has an insurmountable lead with 130 points, followed by Busto with 99, Marcelli with 75, Sherco’s Adam Raga of Spain with 48 and Bincaz with 45. The next and final round is schedule for April 26 in Tallinn, Estonia. CN
