Liqui Moly Beta’s Dare DeMartile tried every trick he could think of for 90 minutes but ultimately had to accept second place behind FMF KTM Factory Off-Road Racing Team ace Dante Oliveira at the Sunland Shamrocks Motorcycle Club’s Fox Raceway Grand Prix, round five of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) Series, Presented by FMF, April 26-27.

Dante Oliveira couldn’t shake Dare DeMartile, who hounded the five-time and reigning series champ all afternoon. However, DeMartile had to settle for a hard-fought runner-up spot by two seconds.

Rarely more than a couple seconds apart all afternoon, five-time series champ Oliveira kept DeMartile at bay, though the Beta charger drew even a couple times, officially finishing two seconds behind at the checkers, while Pro Circuit/Precision Coatings Kawasaki rider Giacomo Redondi—who ran a close second in the first half hour—earned third at the end, 11 seconds behind DeMartile.

“It was quite the race! I was very excited, and I was just trying to keep it calm and mellow and hit my marks and hopefully get around him,” the Bridgestone/Acerbis/FXR 480 RR rider said. “It was a great race, and I learned a lot from it, and I’m excited to come out swinging for the next one.”

Oliveira agreed. “It was a great race,” he said. “We got off to an awesome start and the chase was on from the beginning. I got out front, and I had Giacomo [Redondi] hot on my heels, then he and Dare flip-flopped, and Dare was hot on my heels. It was fun racing with that pressure on you and being able to hold it the whole time, because some people aren’t able to do that.”

DeMartile confirmed rubbing elbows with the Red Bull/Motorex/Alpinestars 450 XC-F rider a couple of times, though Oliveira downplayed the incidents. “He came up close to me in one of these right-handers, and he was a little closer this next lap, so I knew it was going to happen,” Oliveira said. “I just came over and protected my line so he couldn’t make anything happen—and maybe pumped the brakes a little bit so we traded a little more paint.”

Mason Semmens at 2025 Pala NGPC
Current Pro II champ Mason Semmens made it four in a row and finished a commendable fifth overall, comfortably ahead of fellow Pro II riders Sam Pretscherer and Kai Aiello.

Redondi was solidly in third aboard his Team Green/Hatch Racing/Acerbis-backed KX450SR, apparently unbothered by the tumble he’d taken on Saturday early in the 30+ race, which he won regardless. (He’s enjoying an unbeaten streak there that stretches back to the start of 2023 when he became eligible for the class.)

Slam Life Racing (SLR) Honda’s Tyler Lynn couldn’t match his round-three-winning speed, finding himself a rather lonely fourth from the second lap on.

Pro II champ Mason Semmens charged to finish fifth overall, just eight seconds slower than Lynn at the end with his fourth-straight class win. The FMF/RPM Racing KTM rider confided that he’s already looking ahead to next year and trading in his AEO Powersports/Precision Concepts/Moose Racing 250 XC-F for a 450.

Semmens said, “I want to keep building this points lead and, hopefully, by the end of the year, we can wrap it up early like we did last year, and I can step up to the 450cc class and go race there before I’m there full-time next year. That’ll be fun! That’s the goal, that’s the plan. Also, the goal and plan are to stay healthy, keep having fun, stay injury-free and enjoy these races. Winning’s obviously fun, and I want to enjoy it because I know next year is going to be a tough year. Moving up to the big boys is going to be a learning curve. I’m not going out there expecting to win straight away, but I want to be competitive.”

3Bros/Hatch Racing Husqvarna-mounted Sam Pretscherer and his Precision Concepts/Golden Tyres/Troy Lee Designs FX 250 slowly worked his way to second Pro II and sixth overall.

Next physically was Zip-Ty Racing GasGas-mounted Dustyn Davis, but the first-year Pro’s use of an apparently worn-in line that shaved several feet from a corner resulted in a two-minute penalty. That dropped him to fifth Pro II and 11th overall, though a protest has reportedly been filed, so the results could change.

That penalty moved 3Bros/Hatch Racing/Fox Husqvarna rider Kai Aiello to the final Pro II podium spot and seventh overall followed by Gainslinger Human Performance/Lake Elsinore Casino/O’Neal Racing FC 250-mounted Cole Zeller and Lane Lorenzo, the 707 Suspension/Dunlop/Seven GasGas rider taking top A overall as well as first Four-Stroke A for the fourth time this season.

SLR Honda’s Ryan Surratt rounded out the top 10 despite being a physical wreck with knee damage and dental work that requires attention soon.

Mikayla Nielsen at 2025 Pala NGPC
Mikayla Nielsen made it five wins in a row this season in the Pro Women’s class.

It was business as usual in the Pro Women category with SLR Honda’s Mikayla Nielsen the clear winner on her Monster Energy/Lava Propane/Alpinestars CRF250RX. But having spent much time lately on her off-road setup, she looks forward to switching it up and getting back to pure motocross training on the faster, slimmer CRF250R MXer.

“As much as I love the big tank and stuff, I’m so ready to be moto-focused right now, and switching gears now. It definitely keeps it fresh and fun,” she said.

So far this season, she’s undefeated, with 395 Motorsports/Racer Decal/Troy Lee Designs GasGas rider Ava Silvestri runner-up five rounds in a row. New to the podium was Maddy Weber, the first-year Pro, a comfortable third all afternoon aboard her North County Motorsports KTM 250 XC.

The points chase finds Oliveira padding his lead with 138. Behind him, Lynn and DeMartile are tied for second at 108 with Redondi at 94. Mateo Oliveira sat out this one as he recovers from hand surgery; he is fifth in points with 85, and he anticipates being back in action for round six on June 14-15 in Marysville, California.

After skipping round four, Zayden Cantu led the way in the NGPC 50cc/65cc/Girls Junior combined race to make it four victories in 65cc Senior (10-11).
