In this week’s Throwback we wind back the clock 36 years to May of 1989 and the 19th running of the prestigious Virginia City Grand Prix. Just under 400 riders lined up for the start of the classic desert race in Nevada, as you can tell from this image captured by photographer and race reporter Jim Bowman. Team Green’s Larry Roeseler would go on to win the race that year ahead of Honda riders Eric McKenna and Duke Dowell. You probably can’t find Roeseler in this photo. He reportedly started near the back of this pack and ripped through the field on his Kawasaki KX250, passing more than 250 riders on the first lap!
