American Duo Made Up the Suzuki Factory Grand Prix Squad
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the Wayback Machine to 1992 and the Grand Prix motorcycle racing season. That year Suzuki’s factory GP squad was an all-American team featuring Kevin Schwantz (left) and Doug Chandler (right). The Lucky Strike-backed team raced the Suzuki RGV500 and both riders scored impressive results that season. Schwantz earned three podium finishes, including a victory at Mugello in the Italian Grand Prix. Chandler scored four podium results that year and was runner up at the Japanese and Hungarian Grand Prix events. Schwantz finished fourth in the standings that year with Chandler just five points behind in fifth.
